In a bold move set to shake up the UK's confectionery aisle, supermarket chain Morrisons has launched a new own-brand chocolate range designed to compete directly with premium favourites like Tony's Chocolonely and Marks & Spencer.
A Chunky New Challenger Enters the Ring
The new collection, branded as CHUNK, features three permanent milk chocolate bars with adventurous flavour combinations, plus a fourth limited-edition 'seasonal showstopper'. Each bar is priced at £2.50 and became available for purchase both in-store and online from November 18, 2025.
The core line-up includes a bar with Popping Candy, Rainbow Sprinkle & Chocolate Beans, another containing Pretzels, Caramel, Nougat & Sea Salt, and a third, more unexpected, creation with Roasted Corn, Biscuit, Honeycomb & Sea Salt. The limited-edition variant combines Blueberry, Raspberry, Cookie and Brownie.
Designed for Excitement and Indulgence
Lizzy Massey, the director of own-brand at Morrisons, commented on the ambitious launch. 'Our new collection has been developed to create excitement and indulgence in every bite,' she said. 'It features a mouthwatering pairing of smooth milk chocolate infused with an assortment of delicious ingredients for playful textures and irresistible flavours. This new range gives our customers a bold, fun and affordable way to enjoy the kind of chocolate bar that everyone’s talking about.'
First Impressions: A Surprising Taste Test
Initial reviews suggest the range is a creative, if somewhat mixed, bag. While the packaging and chunky format are strikingly similar to leading brands like Tony's, the flavours show genuine innovation.
The Roasted Corn, Biscuit, Honeycomb & Sea Salt bar was noted as a particular standout for its daring combination. The savoury kick from the corn was praised for balancing the sweetness of the milk chocolate, offering a uniquely different experience. A word of caution was given about the salt levels, which can become overpowering if too much is eaten at once.
The limited-edition Blueberry, Raspberry, Cookie & Brownie bar also received positive feedback for its distinct blueberry muffin taste, appealing strongly to those with a sweet tooth, despite slightly artificial fruit notes.
However, not all bars hit the mark. The Rainbow Sprinkle bar was described as disappointingly dull, with lacklustre popping candy and minimal flavour. The Pretzels, Caramel, Nougat & Sea Salt bar faced stronger criticism for its overwhelmingly sweet and chemically caramel flavour, which was found to be unappealing.
The overall verdict acknowledged that while the base chocolate may not quite match the premium quality of Tony's or M&S, the CHUNK range is mostly worth trying for its quirky inclusions and fun, creative approach to flavour.
