Father-son team to take over Fox and Hounds pub in Plumstead

A father and son team, Roy and Taylor, will officially begin their five-year tenancy at The Fox and Hounds in Plumstead on October 30. The pair bring experience from both traditional pubs and cocktail bars and plan to introduce live music, themed events, and a mix of classic and contemporary entertainment.

New management plans and first events

In a statement shared in a local Facebook group, Roy and Taylor said: "We are a father and son team, Roy and Taylor both had many years experience in the pub and bar industry. Ranging from traditional local pubs to cocktails bars. So we hope to mix it up a bit on our new Adventure."

They added: "We have many new plans for the Fox and Hounds. Some we will share on different platforms and others you just have to come in and ask us."

The new tenants have already announced their first events, starting with a Halloween celebration on Saturday, October 31. The event will feature spooky cocktails, a spin-the-wheel activity, and a selection of games.

Community engagement and entertainment

Just a few days later, on Monday, November 2, the pub will host a pool competition starting at 8pm. The winner will take home a £50 prize, and the team is encouraging local players to come along and demonstrate their skills.

Roy and Taylor are also keen to introduce more live entertainment to the Fox and Hounds and are reaching out to the community for support. They are looking for musicians and DJs interested in performing, with a particular focus on finding jazz artists for Sunday sessions. The goal is to create a balanced programme that honours the pub’s traditional roots while adding fresh, exciting events.

Pub's history and location

The Fox and Hounds is located at 57 Plumstead Common Road, at the corner of Sandy Hill Road. According to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the pub has been a fixture in the community for more than 150 years. The venue is well-known for offering pub games such as pool and darts, as well as showing televised sport. CAMRA also notes the pub’s involvement in local darts and cribbage leagues and highlights its walled garden at the rear of the building.

Residents are encouraged to visit the pub, meet the staff, and learn more about what’s in store. Updates will be posted regularly on the new "Fox and Hounds Plumstead" Facebook page, which is separate from the pub’s previous account.

Looking ahead

The change in tenancy marks another chapter in the pub’s long history, with Roy and Taylor aiming to build on its legacy while introducing new forms of entertainment and community engagement. The pub’s new Facebook page will be the main source of information for upcoming events and announcements. The tenants have asked residents to follow the page for the latest updates.

As the Fox and Hounds prepares to come under new management, excitement is building among Plumstead residents eager to see what the father-and-son duo will bring to the historic venue. With a blend of old and new, the refreshed Fox and Hounds aims to become a vibrant gathering place for all generations, continuing its tradition of welcoming locals and visitors alike.
