ASDA's £12m Store Revamp: New Layouts & George Home Debut
ASDA unveils major £12m store layout transformation

ASDA is rolling out a significant transformation of its supermarket layouts, with a freshly refurbished store in Harrogate providing the blueprint for a nationwide modernisation drive.

A Glimpse Into The Future Of Supermarket Shopping

The Harrogate branch has reopened its doors, showcasing a completely new look that will serve as the model for other ASDA locations. One of the most noticeable changes is the replacement of traditional aisle signs with contemporary electronic signage. These new digital signs hang over key sections, clearly directing shoppers to areas like 'Fruit and Veg' or 'Meat and Fish'.

This store is the first of seven set to benefit from a combined investment of £12 million before the 1st of December. The ambitious refurbishment plan was first unveiled back in August.

New Departments And Expanded Sections

A major strategic shift is the introduction of an entirely new department on the shop floor, a vision championed by ASDA's Allan Leighton. Shoppers will now find dedicated spaces for George Home and General Merchandise, as the supermarket giant aims to significantly boost its sales of non-food items.

This new focus is supported by specially designed fixtures and areas that highlight the supermarket's partnerships, including its collaboration with TV personality Stacey Solomon. Beyond new departments, several existing areas have received substantial upgrades.

The fruit and vegetable section has been enhanced with new cabinet fixtures to improve product availability. Furthermore, the beers, wines, and spirits aisle has been expanded, and both the in-store bakery and the health and beauty department have been given a comprehensive facelift.

Multi-Million Pound Investment Across Yorkshire

The retail transformation is well underway, with a series of store reopenings scheduled. Following the Harrogate launch, newly refurbished stores in Pudsey, Keighley, and Kingswood are set to reopen next week after a £7.2 million investment.

An additional £4.6 million has been invested in upgrading two more stores in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, and Stockton-on-Tees. Liz Evans, ASDA's Chief Commercial Officer for Retail and Non-Food, expressed her enthusiasm for the project.

"We're so excited to welcome customers into our newly upgraded Harrogate store - the first to get an upgrade as part of our £12m investment across Yorkshire and nearby areas," she said. "ASDA started here 60 years ago, so putting money back into our home patch really means a lot to us. We want our stores to feel fresh, easy to shop, and full of great value for local families. This is just the start - we can't wait to unveil more upgraded Yorkshire stores over the next few weeks."

This store overhaul complements ASDA's broader expansion strategy, which last month saw the launch of nine new Express convenience stores in high-traffic urban areas, residential neighbourhoods, and transport hubs.
