Moelis & Company has hired Michael Knott from Lazard to bolster its chemicals coverage in London, according to a person familiar with the matter. Knott, a managing director, will join Moelis to lead the expansion of the investment bank's chemicals advisory practice in Europe.
Strengthening Sector Expertise
Knott brings over 15 years of experience in investment banking, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance for chemical companies. His hire is part of Moelis's strategy to deepen its sector expertise and capture more market share in the chemicals industry, which has seen a surge in dealmaking activity.
Impact on London Office
The move strengthens Moelis's London office, which has been actively recruiting to compete with larger rivals. Knott's appointment is expected to enhance the bank's ability to advise on complex cross-border transactions and strategic advisory mandates in the chemicals sector.
Prior to Lazard, Knott worked at JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley, where he advised on numerous high-profile chemical deals. His departure from Lazard comes as the bank undergoes a strategic review of its advisory operations.
Moelis declined to comment, and Knott did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The hire is effective immediately, and Knott will report to Moelis's global head of chemicals, who is based in New York.
