Tigers Head pub in Chislehurst gets council approval for signage upgrade
Tigers Head pub Chislehurst signage upgrade approved

Bromley Council has granted advertisement consent for signage upgrades at The Tigers Head pub in Chislehurst, despite objections from local residents. The pub, located on Watt's Lane and operated by Greene King, will receive several new signs and lighting features as part of the approved plans.

Details of the approved signage plans

The approved proposals include a new post-mounted sign outside the front of the pub, featuring a full colour illustration of a tiger's head. A fresh entrance sign will be installed above the main doors, and lettering on the side of the building will be replaced. Additionally, new floodlights are planned above the signage.

The planning officer's report noted that objections were received, with concerns raised about "damage to a historic building", "excessive visual clutter" and "harsh light pollution" for pedestrians. Despite these concerns, the officer concluded that the signs "would not appear excessive" given the building's use as a pub.

Council's rationale for approval

The planning officer's report stated: "Having regard to its scale, siting and appearance, the proposal would complement the host property and would not appear out of character with surrounding development or the area generally."

The report further noted: "It is considered that the proposed signs are of a sympathetic design, which would complement the existing locally listed building given its use and not result in a detrimental impact upon the character of the conservation area."

Conditions and next steps

The application was granted subject to conditions, including limits on the luminance levels of the signage. Greene King has been contacted for further comment on the approved upgrades.
