Football legend Wayne Rooney and his wife, television personality Coleen Rooney, have been spotted enjoying a lavish family holiday in Barbados, soaking up the sun before the highly anticipated release of their new fly-on-the-wall documentary series.
Sun, Sea, and Family Time in Barbados
The couple, along with their four children and Coleen's parents, were seen relaxing on a yacht during their annual trip to the Caribbean island over the weekend. Coleen, 39, was pictured in a leopard print bikini with a glass of wine in hand, while Wayne, 40, sought shade on deck with her parents, Colette and Tony.
Their eldest son, Kai, 16, showed off his adventurous side by zipping around on a jet ski. He was later joined by his younger siblings Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, six, who were seen chatting with their mother. The family is no stranger to Barbados, having purchased a £5 million villa on the island back in 2010, complete with five bedrooms and an infinity pool.
Behind the Scenes: The Rooneys' New Reality Series
This tropical escape comes just before the family invites the public into their private world for a major new reality television project. Disney Plus has commissioned a 10-episode documentary series, potentially titled 'The Rooneys', which promises an intimate look at their home life.
The series will show Wayne tackling the school run and Coleen as she pursues new business ventures. This isn't the family's first collaboration with the streaming giant; Coleen previously worked with Disney Plus on the 2023 three-part series, 'Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story'.
From Wagatha to the Jungle: Coleen's Public Journey
That earlier series detailed the fallout from Coleen's infamous 2019 social media post where she accused fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories to the press. Following a high-profile libel case, a High Court judge found Coleen's claims to be 'substantially true'. Rebekah Vardy has since agreed to pay Coleen's legal fees, which amounted to almost £1.4 million.
Coleen's profile has soared since, further boosted by her appearance on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! Speaking to Metro afterwards, she expressed surprise at the public's heightened interest. "I didn't think it would have as much impact as it has done," she said, adding that the response to her jungle stint had been "overwhelmingly positive."
In a lighter revelation from their past, Wayne recently shared on his BBC podcast that he once locked Coleen out of their UK home after she put up Liverpool flags—the arch-rivals of his former club, Manchester United—to celebrate their Premier League win. He claimed she wasn't locked out for 'too long', though no specific time frame was given.
With their new Disney+ series, executives are clearly betting on the public's enduring fascination with one of Britain's most famous families. While an official release date for 'The Rooneys' is yet to be announced, fans won't have to wait long for this deep dive into their world.
