Spice Girls legend Melanie Brown, better known as Mel B, celebrated her marriage to long-term partner Rory McPhee with a spectacular second wedding ceremony in Marrakesh this August. The pop icon shared breathtaking photos from her special day, showcasing a vibrant red and orange beaded wedding dress that captured the essence of Moroccan elegance.
The Marrakesh Celebration
The couple exchanged vows at the luxurious Selman Hotel, just one month after their initial London ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral. The Moroccan celebration was coordinated by local expert Héloïse Agelou, who worked alongside wedding planner Giuditta from Postcard Perfect Weddings and Caroline Black from Evelie.
Héloïse, speaking from her Hello Moments & Co office in Marrakesh, revealed that contrary to what some might expect from a global superstar, Mel B was anything but a bridezilla. "She wasn't a bridezilla at all. I think she's the nicest bride I've ever had," Héloïse confessed during a Zoom interview. "She's really become a friend from this experience, because she's the most understanding and grateful person I've met and worked with."
Heartwarming Moments of Kindness
The wedding planner shared several touching examples of the popstar's genuine nature during the three-day celebration. One particularly memorable moment occurred in the early hours of the morning when Mel B personally thanked staff who were constructing a custom-built platform across the hotel swimming pool.
"My staff were building the stage on the water for her ceremony. So they were building it all night. And she went – at one o'clock or two o'clock in the morning – saying thank you to them for working on it, after her first event," Héloïse recalled. "It's not even about being a celebrity or not a celebrity, like it is such humbleness and authenticity to have any human go and thank everyone like that."
Unique Wedding Details
The celebration featured several distinctive elements that reflected the couple's personality. Mel B chose a stunning bejewelled red wedding dress, while Rory made a dramatic statement by slicing a bright red tiered cake with a sword. The spectacular cake was created by Terra Mia, with photographs captured by Joshua Lawrence.
One of the most nerve-wracking moments for the events team involved pyrotechnics during the couple's exit down the aisle. As Mel and Rory shared a kiss, an explosion of colour erupted behind them. Héloïse admitted, "I was not breathing," while waiting for the perfectly timed colour pop that couldn't be rehearsed beforehand. Fortunately, the effect worked flawlessly, creating what may be Morocco's first colour pop wedding photograph.
Mel B's inclusive nature shone throughout the evening when she insisted that bar staff join the festivities. "During the evening, she asked all the bartenders to have a drink. She's like, 'only if you don't drink, you're all having a shot on me'," Héloïse remembered.
The wedding planner emphasised that the local team went above and beyond for Mel B not because of her celebrity status, but because of her genuine respect for Moroccan culture and her appreciative nature. "They were very touched by the way she respected the culture, and was really grateful, and I thought that was really something very, very special," Héloïse noted.
A Mutual Admiration
Héloïse Agelou, founder of Hello Moments, has built a reputation for creating magical weddings in Marrakesh after beginning her career as a professional jockey in France and later organising charity events in London. She couldn't praise Mel B enough, stating: "She has such consideration for people's time and effort, it's unbelievable. Yeah, like, this woman hasn't forgotten whatsoever where she comes from, that's very rare in anyone who succeeds."
The admiration was clearly mutual, with Mel B telling Metro: "It was a joy to work with Héloïse. It was a Girl Power wedding as everyone from Giuditta, the wedding planner, to Caroline Black, my wedding dress guru from Evelie, to the wonderful Héloïse! Héloïse is a strong, powerful, incredible woman who made it all happen in Morocco, North Africa! Forever grateful to them all."
The wedding celebration proved that behind the Scary Spice persona lies a warm, genuine woman who values human connection and cultural appreciation above celebrity status. The Marrakesh ceremony served as a beautiful testament to love, friendship, and the enduring spirit of girl power.
