Celebrity Faces Lengthy Recovery After Hotel Accident
Former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star Lady Colin Campbell is pursuing legal action against a luxury London hotel after a serious fall left her with devastating injuries that will require six months of recovery before she can walk again.
The 76-year-old television personality, who appeared on the reality show in 2015, shattered her pelvis and hip during an incident at the hotel's basement screening room on October 26. She remains hospitalised at the private King Edward VII's Hospital in London, where she has been receiving morphine treatment for what she describes as "excruciating" pain.
Dangerous Design Blamed for Serious Fall
Lady Campbell was attending a film screening for filmmaker Amanda Eliasch's new project, The Truth Will Come Out, when the accident occurred. She described the room as "very beautiful, black on black" but dangerously designed.
"I was invited to sit down, but there was a person between me and my seat, so to avoid stepping over them, I took a step around," Lady Campbell explained to The Sun. "The room is designed to look like it is all on the same level. Where I fell was a radically different level. It was like falling into an abyss."
The celebrity revealed that the drop measured approximately 12 to 18 inches rather than a standard step height of 5 to 7 inches. She emphasised there was "no lighting, no member of staff with a torch to indicate there was a plunge" and claimed that even paramedics responding to the incident "almost fell down the drop when they came."
Legal Action and Recovery Process
Lady Campbell has been creating content from her hospital bed while wearing a hospital gown during her extended stay. She was initially treated at St Thomas' hospital before transferring to her current facility.
Regarding the planned lawsuit, the star stated: "I will take it. I hope it can be resolved nicely, but if not, it will be resolved either way." She expressed concern that similar accidents could happen to others, insisting "This cannot happen again" and accusing the hotel of putting "style before safety."
The outspoken personality, who finished in eighth place on I'm A Celebrity in 2015 when she left on medical grounds, has remained in the public eye through appearances on shows including Celebs Go Dating and Celebs on the Farm. She has also continued her work as a royal commentator, publishing several books including the Wall Street Journal bestseller "Meghan and Harry: The Real Story."
