The Stag in Hampstead Reopens January 22 After Major Refurbishment
Hampstead's Stag Pub Reopens After Full Refurbishment

One of Hampstead's most cherished local pubs, The Stag, is preparing to welcome back the community after undergoing a comprehensive transformation. The venue will officially reopen its doors on 22nd January 2026, promising regulars that everything they loved has been retained, just significantly enhanced.

A Polished Historic Heart with Modern Flair

The extensive refurbishment has carefully preserved the pub's historic character. Key original features, including the iconic mounted stag heads, ornamental mirrors, and open fireplaces, have been meticulously restored. This creates a space that feels both comfortably familiar and special enough for a celebration. The design philosophy was to polish the classic British pub ambiance, not replace it.

An All-Weather Garden and New Libations

Significant investment has been made outdoors, where the expansive beer garden has been upgraded into a genuine all-weather destination. New additions include a dedicated garden bar, outdoor screens for major sporting events like the Six Nations, and a fully-equipped Garden Room with cobblestone floors, a fireplace, and retractable awnings for private functions.

Behind the bar, the drinks offering has been elevated. Patrons will find a rotating selection of craft beers from breweries such as Pretty Decent Beer, Verdant, and Deya, alongside perennial favourites like Guinness, Asahi, and Modelo. A highlight for cocktail enthusiasts is a seasonally changing martini menu, featuring seven inventive twists including Dirty, Spicy, and a playful Tomatini.

Elevated Comfort Food and Private Events

The all-day food menu focuses on elevated pub comfort. Standout dishes include a tear-and-share 'Stag Bag', rotisserie chicken, the famous Stag chicken wings, and indulgent lunchtime toasties perfect after a walk on Hampstead Heath. Sundays will see the return of generous roast dinners with premium cuts, large Yorkshire puddings, and plenty of gravy.

A brand-new feature is an upstairs private events space, designed to feel like a house party. Spread across three interconnected rooms with its own taps and music system, it provides a dedicated celebration hub above the main pub.

The revival of The Stag marks a significant moment for the Hampstead social scene. With its blend of restored heritage, modern amenities, and a focus on quality food and drink, the pub is poised to reclaim its status as a cornerstone of the local community. Walk-ins are encouraged from opening day, signalling the return of good times to this much-loved London landmark.
