Top UK Chefs Reveal Their Best Meals of 2025
Chefs' Favourite UK Restaurant Meals of 2025

Despite significant economic pressures, 2025 has been hailed as another exceptional year for London's restaurant scene. We asked some of the nation's top culinary talents to name the single meal that impressed them the most over the past twelve months.

From Somerset to Soho: A Nation of Culinary Highlights

The responses highlighted a diverse range of venues, from countryside retreats to central London hotspots. Stevie Parle, chef-founder of Town and Pastaio, declared Osip in Bruton, Somerset, as the best restaurant in the UK. He praised Merlin Labron-Johnson's profound connection to local produce and noted the experience had "levelled up" since its move to a new space with onsite bedrooms.

Sommelier Sandia Chang of Kitchen Table selected Dovetale for its accessible menu and great execution by chef Tom Anglesea, specifically highlighting a dish of leeks marigold with Scottish lobster and black truffle. Meanwhile, Nathaniel Mortley of 2210 by NattyCanCook was wowed by the purposeful 12-course tasting menu at West African restaurant Akoko.

Confident Flavours and Unpretentious Atmospheres

Many chefs celebrated restaurants championing simplicity and robust flavour. Ben Chamberlain, head chef of Wild at Bull, loved Fallow for its "proper cooking" and "confident flavours," namechecking the crispy pig’s head and octopus crumpet. Leonel Aguirre of Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London found a memorable, grandmother-style minestrone and perfectly roasted partridge at the classic gastropub The Eagle in Farringdon.

Sebby Holmes of Farang gave a dual award: globally to Samrub Samrub in Bangkok, and in the UK to The Bull in Charlbury for its "perfect pub cooking." Chris Golding, executive chef of NIJU, similarly praised the unpretentious excellence of Bouchon Racine.

Exceptional Experiences Beyond the Plate

For several chefs, the standout meal was about the entire experience. Max Venning of Three Sheets also chose Osip, marvelling at the unique stay-and-dine package. Charlie Mellor of Osteria Vibrato selected Timberyard in Edinburgh as a "masterclass in hospitality" and a "beacon of warmth."

Karan Gokani of Hoppers highlighted the convivial joy of a family celebration at Sabor's La Mesa, while Benjamin Zannier of La Mome London was struck by the precise, flavour-packed simplicity of Arroza Q. In a fitting twist, Tom Anglesea of Dovetale himself named Planque in Haggerston as his favourite, singling out its confident lobster rice.

The collective insight from these industry experts paints a picture of a resilient and thriving UK food scene in 2025, where technical brilliance, connection to produce, and genuine hospitality continue to shine.
