Emergency Measures in China

The Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have convened meetings with meteorological and hydrological departments. Officials emphasized the need for reinforced patrols and emergency responses to mitigate potential flooding. Reservoirs with known safety concerns must be kept empty during the rainfall and throughout the upcoming rainy season.

Heatwave in India

Central and northern India are experiencing extreme temperatures, with maxima of 45°C reported from Surat in the west to Haryana, Delhi, and Odisha in the east. Combined with high humidity and extreme UV levels, several yellow heatwave alerts have been issued. The sweltering heat is expected to persist into early this week before cooler air and thunderstorms bring relief.

Nigeria Flooding

Heavy rainfall in Nigeria has caused widespread damage in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state. On Saturday, intense rain led to rapidly rising water levels that inundated properties and destroyed homes. Although rainfall totals were not as extreme as in Southeast Asia, poor drainage infrastructure has made damaging flooding an increasingly recurring issue.

Cold Snap in Canada

Unseasonably cold weather is affecting central western Canada. Cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon are seeing daytime maximums below freezing, up to 15°C below normal for late April, with minimums of -10°C to -12°C. The cold air has brought snow to the northern US states of Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. Much warmer conditions are expected later this week as the cold air shifts into the southern and eastern US.
