PlayStation Plus Price Hike Now Live: All Tiers Affected
PlayStation Plus Price Hike Live: All Tiers Affected

Sony has officially implemented price increases across all three tiers of its PlayStation Plus subscription service, affecting one-month and three-month plans for PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium. The changes, which went into effect today, follow an announcement earlier this week that initially only detailed adjustments for the Essential tier.

New Pricing Breakdown

For PS Plus Essential, the one-month subscription now costs £7.99 (up £1), and the three-month plan is £21.99 (up £2). PS Plus Extra, which provides access to the PlayStation game catalogue, has risen to £11.99 for one month (up £1) and £34.99 for three months (up £3). PS Plus Premium, the top tier including retro games, now costs £14.99 for one month (up £1.50) and £43.99 for three months (up £4).

Notably, 12-month subscriptions for all tiers remain unchanged from their 2023 price hike: Essential at £59.99, Extra at £99.99, and Premium at £119.99. Current subscribers are not affected by the increases unless their membership lapses or is cancelled, at which point renewal will require the new pricing.

Why the Price Increase?

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Hideaki Nishino previously stated that the company aims to adjust PlayStation Plus pricing 'in a dynamic way to maximise profitability' and 'add more value' to the service. However, no new benefits or incentives have been announced alongside the price hike, beyond continued additions to the game catalogue.

The move follows broader industry trends, with competitors like Nintendo raising prices for the Switch 2. Sony may attempt to regain goodwill with its upcoming State of Play presentation, scheduled for two weeks from now and expected to run 60 minutes. The event is anticipated to feature major announcements, including new details on the Wolverine game releasing in September. Sony is also partnering with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in the US to screen the showcase in select theatres, hinting at significant reveals.
