Nintendo Ramps Up Switch 2 Production Despite Price Hike

Nintendo is quietly increasing production of its Switch 2 console despite announcing a price hike and lower sales projections. The company has asked suppliers to assemble around 20 million units by March 2027, roughly 20% more than its official sales outlook of 16.5 million for the next financial year, according to Bloomberg.

Production Boost Amid Price Hikes

Nintendo recently announced price increases for the Switch 2 in Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe, citing changes in market conditions. In Europe, the console will cost €499.99 from September 1, 2026, up €30. In Japan, higher prices take effect next week. The UK revised price remains unannounced.

Despite these increases, Nintendo's official forecast of 16.5 million sales for the fiscal year ending April 2027 is down from 19.86 million sold in the previous fiscal year. However, the production target suggests greater confidence.

Industry analyst Serkan Toto noted that lowballing initial projections is a common strategy. 'For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later. The just-finished fiscal year is a good example,' he said.

The production boost may also reflect confidence in Nintendo's software lineup for 2026, including titles like Yoshi And The Mysterious Book, Star Fox, Rhythm Paradise Groove, Splatoon Raiders, The Duskbloods, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Rumors also suggest a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time as a potential holiday system seller.

The production volume is not final and may be revised based on demand, but it indicates Nintendo's optimism despite the price increases.
