Travel Advice for Arsenal Fans Going to Budapest

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued updated travel guidance for British nationals planning to travel to Hungary next week for the Champions League Final. Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on Saturday, May 30, with kick-off at 5pm.

Key Advice for Fans

Budapest has become increasingly popular in recent years, but the Champions League final is expected to draw thousands of Arsenal supporters to the Hungarian capital. Arsenal received an allocation of 16,824 General Admission tickets for the match. The FCDO has released a specific alert for football fans.

In their warning, they advise all British nationals to:

  • Plan their movement around the city to arrive at the dedicated fan zone in Városliget Park, Heroes Square, or the stadium well in advance of the match start.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.
  • Take care of personal possessions, including passports, especially in crowds and on public transport.

UEFA advises fans to carry valid original copies of ID should inspection be requested on entry to the stadium. Accepted ID includes passports and national ID cards. Driver's licenses will not be accepted. UEFA also warns fans not to purchase tickets on the secondary market from unauthorised third parties, as they are likely to be refused entry or ejected from the stadium.

Passport and Visa Requirements

Hungary follows Schengen area rules, which require your passport to have a 'date of issue' less than 10 years before your arrival date. It must also have an 'expiry date' at least three months after your planned departure from the Schengen area. You can travel without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Additional Precautions

The FCDO also advises fans and tourists to 'be wary of establishments where menus do not properly display prices,' as there have been instances of tourists being taken to cashpoints with demands for money to pay the bill. For more information on travel to Hungary, visit the Foreign Office website.

Arsenal Trophy Parade Plans

Arsenal will parade the Premier League trophy around Islington on Sunday, May 31, from 2pm after securing their first league title in 22 years. Fans and players are hopeful they will also parade the Champions League trophy. As a major public event, the club anticipates large numbers of supporters and has advised local residents and businesses of significant disruption, including road closures and parking suspensions across the borough. Further details regarding the parade will be released closer to the time.
