The Met Office has confirmed that the UK will experience rain and possible thunderstorms before a bank holiday heatwave, with temperatures set to exceed those in Athens. London could see highs of 26C by Friday, but not before a bout of typical British rain.
Tuesday's Forecast: Rain and Showers
Tuesday will bring early rain, followed by a mix of sunshine and frequent showers. The Met Office warns that some showers could be heavy, with hail and thunder possible. Temperatures will remain in the mid-teens Celsius. Showers will continue into the evening before gradually easing overnight.
Mid-Week Outlook
Wednesday will be largely cloudy, but rain will ease, allowing temperatures to climb towards 20C. Met Office forecaster Craig Snell noted, 'Temperatures at the start of the week are still a little subdued for the time of the year; as we head towards the weekend, we are expecting to see a change.'
Bank Holiday Heatwave
The UK is set to enjoy temperatures in the low-to-mid-20s in the run-up to the bank holiday on Monday. The Met Office predicts highs of 23C in Manchester, 26C in London, and 20C in Cardiff. Saturday is expected to reach 23C, with Sunday and Monday seeing temperatures as warm as 24C.
Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth added: 'From Thursday onwards, temperatures could rise above average, approaching 20C for some across southern areas. We could be closer to the mid-20s, possibly, for some areas, in the South East, by the bank holiday weekend.'
This follows recent reports of a plague of mating flies swarming a Scottish beach and a major solar flare set to brush past Earth. The UK is also expected to be hotter than Hawaii, with temperatures rising to 25C.
