Croydon Fire: 70 Firefighters Battle Hindu Temple Blaze

Seventy firefighters and ten fire engines are currently battling a blaze at a Hindu temple in Croydon, London. The fire has engulfed half of a warehouse that had been converted into the London Croydon Sri Nagapoosani Amman Hindu temple on Elmwood Road.

No Injuries Reported Yet

According to temple priest and owner Siva Kumara Sarma, who is currently in Canada, there have been no reported injuries so far. Mr Sarma learned of the devastating news from the landlord. He said: "I am very worried, I don't know what to do."

Fire Crews Responding

The first of nine calls to the fire was received at approximately 1:10 PM. Crews from Croydon, Norbury, Mitcham, and Woodside are currently at the scene. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Location Near Hospital

Elmwood Road is largely residential but also houses The Woodleigh Community Hospital. It is not yet confirmed whether the hospital has been evacuated, but MyLondon is making enquiries.
