A man has been charged following a brutal assault on a London bus driver that left the victim fighting for his life. The incident occurred on Battersea Bridge in the early hours of Monday, May 18, prompting an emergency response that included an airlift to hospital.
Details of the Attack
Police were called to Battersea Bridge Road at approximately 12:30 AM after reports of an assault on a Transport for London (TfL) bus driver. The driver, whose identity has not been released, sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He remains in a critical condition as of Tuesday, May 19.
Arrest and Charges
A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been identified as Gary Jones, of no fixed address. Jones was formally charged with causing grievous bodily harm and appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled for a plea hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, June 15.
