Ruben Amorim wants £56m Lisandro Martinez for AC Milan, Mason Mount decision made
Amorim targets Martinez for Milan, Mount not for sale

Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United manager now in charge at AC Milan, is targeting a reunion with Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine defender, signed by United for £56 million in 2022, is a prime target for Amorim as he looks to rebuild the Rossoneri squad this summer.

Amorim's Milan recruitment drive

Amorim left Old Trafford six months ago and took over at Milan earlier this month. He is planning a major recruitment drive, with Goncalo Ramos reportedly in talks to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Italian side. In defence, Amorim is keen on Benfica's Antonio Silva, another Portuguese international, and John Stones, who is a free agent after his Manchester City contract expired.

According to reports in Italy, Milan will explore an ambitious move for Martinez. Tuttomercatoweb indicates interest in the Argentina international, while Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello added that Amorim is 'crazy' about the former Ajax star, with contact already made over a potential switch. Sporting CP's Goncalo Inacio is also a target.

Martinez's role at United

Martinez was a first-choice centre-half alongside Harry Maguire under Michael Carrick last season. His current deal at Old Trafford expires next summer, though United hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months. The club has not yet indicated a willingness to sell.

Mason Mount decision

Reports elsewhere claimed Amorim is also interested in signing Mason Mount. The former Chelsea star has struggled for form and fitness since his move in 2023 but enjoyed perhaps his best spell under Amorim towards the end of the 2025-26 season, helping United reach the Europa League final against Tottenham.

However, United are unaware of any discussions over Mount. The midfielder has no intention of leaving Old Trafford, and the club has no plans to sell him this summer. United are light on midfield options, with Kobbie Mainoo their only recognised central midfielder and Manuel Ugarte facing a long lay-off due to a knee injury suffered at the World Cup with Uruguay.

United's midfield plans

United are set to sign Ederson from Atalanta, a deal expected to be confirmed in July. They remain in talks to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, and Bournemouth's Alex Scott is also a target.
