Around 60 firefighters are tackling a grass fire near Berwick Pond Road in Rainham, East London, with half a tonne of water deployed to contain the blaze. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) control room received 11 calls from concerned members of the public, with the first call logged at 3:25pm. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Third wildfire in 24 hours
This incident marks the third wildfire in the Rainham area within a 24-hour period, following a blaze last night and another earlier today. However, authorities do not believe the three fires are connected. Yesterday, approximately four hectares of grassland were alight in another part of Rainham.
Advice to locals
The LFB has urged locals to avoid the area near Berwick Pond Road to allow emergency services to operate safely. Eight fire engines are currently at the scene. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
