Walkers Sensations has introduced two new variations of its Thai Sweet Chilli crisps: Poppadoms and Wavy Cut. Both launched on July 14, 2026, but early reviews are mixed, with one snack influencer describing the poppadom version as 'very plain'.
New textures, same flavour
The new offerings are not new flavours but rather texture variants of the popular Thai Sweet Chilli taste. The Wavy Cut crisps come in a 140g bag, priced at £1.65 at Home Bargains, while the Poppadoms are available in an 82.5g bag for £1.75 on offer at Tesco, though major supermarkets are expected to price both at £2.50.
Foodie influencer @johns_snackreviews tested both. He rated the Wavy Cut 7 out of 10, noting: 'You know the flavour, but the wavy cut definitely seems Walkers max strong, just slightly crunchier.' However, the Poppadoms scored only 5 out of 10. He wrote: 'The poppadom seemed very plain, almost Chinese poppadom texture. The flavour was very light [and] didn’t come through very well at all. Yes, I rinsed my mouth between bags [and] tried again an hour later to be sure.' He added he would not buy the Poppadoms again.
Mixed reactions from fans
Not all feedback was negative. Another consumer disagreed, saying: 'Full of flavour, quite spicy really, but they would be absolutely banging mopping up your curry with rice… they’re banging.'
Wayne Newton, senior marketing director at PepsiCo, said: 'We know that Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli has become a true icon of the premium sharing occasion. This meant that expanding it into our successful Poppadoms range and introducing an all-new Wavy Cut variant was the natural next step in building on this momentum.'
Rebranded packaging
The launches come with a refreshed packaging design, featuring a new Walkers logo, ingredient pictures, and an updated swoosh. Newton added: 'Combined with our bold new packaging design, these launches mark an exciting new chapter for Sensations. The result is a modern, premium look that delivers even greater shelf standout.' The rebranded packaging will first appear on the Thai Sweet Chilli variants, with the rest of the Sensations range expected to adopt the new design by the end of 2026.
Recipe change controversy
This launch follows a controversial recipe change in 2023 that upset some fans. One user on X complained: 'Why in God’s name has the recipe for Thai Sweet Chilli sensations been changed?! You had already created perfection in crisp form.' Walkers acknowledged the change at the time, but the flavour remains popular.
