Red Bull Soapbox Race at Alexandra Palace: eccentric soapboxes

The Red Bull Soapbox Race returned to Alexandra Palace in London on 20 June 2026, attracting large crowds with its high-spirited and eccentric spectacle of fancy dress soapboxes racing – and often falling apart – on a downhill course filled with hazards.

Imaginative entries and costumes

Teams showcased a wide range of creative designs, from a Charles-themed entry by Team King of the Hill to a Ghostbusters-themed team. Newcastle United fans also participated, getting their entry to the start line. Costumes are all part of the fun, with participants and spectators alike embracing the whimsical atmosphere.

Soapbox challenges and crashes

The often flimsy soapboxes can start to come apart over the jump, as seen with a desk soapbox that landed heavily. Bendy the Hoover cleared the jump, while other entries like the Bath Kraken and an eagle soapbox took flight. The Haringey Hounds Blades of Fury’s entry, who play at the Alexandra Palace ice rink, also made an appearance.

Young participants and creative themes

Two young entrants got ready for take-off, and a Chinese takeaway was one of the many imaginative entries. Even skateboarding provided inspiration for a soapbox. The event continues to be a celebration of creativity and fun, with participants and spectators enjoying the unpredictable races.
