James Bourne, the 42-year-old guitarist from Busted, has surprised fans by revealing a new album following major surgery he described as necessary to 'extend his life.' The musician, who stepped back from the spotlight earlier this year, announced the release of 'Murder At The Gates,' a 13-year project created for a musical by Tony Award-winning playwright Steven Sater.
Health Struggles and Determination
In April, Bourne disclosed that he required significant surgery. He later deleted his Instagram account, sparking concern among fans. However, behind the scenes, he continued working on the album, determined to see it through. 'I didn’t want my health to stop me from promoting this project because I’ve put 13 years of my life into it,' he told The Sun. 'There was a fear of not finishing it. But I knew I had to finish it and give this to the people.'
A Long-Awaited Release
The album, set for release on July 1, features Stranger Things actor Gaten Matarazzo. Bourne described it as having a 'different feeling to all the others' and noted that even his Busted bandmates have not heard it in full. 'It feels so good to now have this as a finished product. And it’s the first album I’ve ever produced. So I’m proud of it,' he said.
Stepping Back from Busted Tour
Bourne, who lives in Cornwall, announced in September that he would not join the Busted tour. His brother Chris replaced him, touring with Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson. Bourne viewed the decision as a 'gift of time,' despite it being 'such a shame.' He added, 'But you have to turn negative into positive. They’re the conversations I’ve had with my closest friends. I wanted to take the time I’d been given and deliver this album.'
