Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed a series of branch closures for 2026 and early 2027, affecting Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland. The banking giant says the majority of closures are due to customers shifting to online banking, preferring mobile apps, websites, or phone services.

A total of 44 Lloyds Bank branches are expected to close across the UK in 2026, with another 13 closures scheduled for the first half of 2027. Bank of Scotland closures
Four Bank of Scotland branches will close in 2026: Benbecula – July 1; Largs – July 29; Hawick – October 7; Grangemouth – October 8. No closures have been announced for 2027.
Impact on high street
The closures continue a trend of high street banking decline. Lloyds stated that the shift to digital banking is the primary driver. Other retailers have also announced closures, including Quiz Clothing, Leading Labels, and Morrisons Daily stores. The closures reflect a broader transformation in consumer behaviour.
