Mizuho Appoints Reid as New EMEA Investment Banking Head
Mizuho Names Reid EMEA Investment Bank Head

Mizuho Financial Group has named James Reid as the new head of investment banking for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.

Reid, who previously served as co-head of the region's investment banking division, will now lead the unit independently. He succeeds David Reid, who has left the bank after more than a decade.

Leadership Changes

The appointment is part of a broader reshuffle within Mizuho's international operations. The Japanese bank has been expanding its presence in Europe, focusing on cross-border M&A and capital markets advisory.

James Reid has been with Mizuho for over 15 years, holding various senior roles in London. He will report to Hideyuki Nishi, head of Mizuho's international banking unit.

In a statement, Nishi said: "James brings deep experience and strong client relationships that will be instrumental in driving our EMEA investment banking business forward."

Strategic Focus

Mizuho aims to strengthen its advisory capabilities in key sectors such as technology, healthcare, and financial services. The bank has been hiring senior bankers to compete with larger rivals.

Recent mandates include advising on the sale of UK-based cybersecurity firm to a US private equity group and cross-border deals in the renewable energy space.

The leadership change comes as Mizuho reports a 12% increase in investment banking revenues in EMEA for the first half of the fiscal year, driven by M&A and equity capital markets.
