Go Ape to Open New High Ropes Course in South London's Danson Park

Zipwire and high rope adventure company Go Ape is planning to open a new location in south London, bringing its treetop challenges to the Grade II listed Danson Park. The proposed site, in a woodland area on the north-western side of the park next to an existing playground, would feature three new rope courses and a shipping container for storage. An existing building currently used as a changing room would be converted into a reception, storeroom, staffroom, and group gathering space.

Go Ape currently operates 36 sites across the UK. The new southeast London location aims to offer the same thrilling experience of swinging from rope bridges, zooming along zipwires, and trekking across treetop walkways that has made the company popular among children and adults alike.

Local Opposition

However, the plans have faced significant pushback from local residents. More than 490 objections were submitted to the Bexley Council planning portal, and a petition titled 'Stop Go Ape in Danson Park' garnered over 1,300 signatures online. Critics have expressed concerns about the impact on the historic park's character and environment.
