Silent Hill: The Short Message is a two-hour first-person title released for free on the PlayStation Store. It was poorly received, with critics noting it was neither scary nor entertaining. The deluxe edition includes art cards, an art poster of the monster, an acrylic keychain, and a certificate of authenticity.

The £52 price tag is notably high compared to other games. For context, it is £18 less than a pre-order for Grand Theft Auto 6, the same price as Astro Bot, and £12 more than a physical copy of Silent Hill 2 from 2024. The game is widely considered one of the worst entries in the Silent Hill franchise, alongside Silent Hill: Ascension.
