East Midlands Airport has been named the UK airport with the fastest security check-in, where 99.7% of passengers complete the process in under 15 minutes, according to a new study. The airport, serving Derby, Nottingham, and Leicester, outperforms major London airports in both speed and delay reduction.
Next-generation scanners speed up security
The airport has invested in next-generation scanners that have transformed the security hall, allowing for a thorough check while significantly reducing wait times. This technology has helped achieve a 99.7% success rate for pre-flight checks under 15 minutes, an impressive feat for any airport.
Lowest delays in the UK
East Midlands Airport also boasts the fourth lowest total delay across all UK airports, with an average delay of just 11 minutes and 48 seconds last year. Even during the busiest early morning wave of flights, it maintains a 90.4% ‘On Time Performance’ score for departures.

By all measures we have improved on the previous year and are consistently performing way above our targets."

While the airport excels in efficiency, it offers limited shopping and dining options due to its modest size. Passengers can find a WHSmith, JD Sports, Accessorize, and a duty-free section, along with a few eateries, but it may not be enough to fill hours of time before a flight.
