Couple meets in Dull Men’s Club, marries after ordinary life bond

Lili and Luke Mallatratt met in late 2023 through the Dull Men’s Club, a Facebook group now called Banana for Scale that celebrates ordinary things. Luke’s posts about ironing T-shirts and budget spreadsheets hooked Lili, who appreciated the group’s dry humor and contentment with simplicity.

From Group Chat to Video Calls

After joining, Lili was added to a group chat where Luke spoke about his routines. They bonded over their love for a dull, simple life. Lili, who experienced chaos growing up, felt Luke balanced her nervous system. They spent five to six hours daily on video calls, discussing work, music, and movies.

First Meeting in Hospital

Two months later, Luke flew from the UK to the US. Lili, wary, had a friend run a background check, which found him completely clean—not even a speeding ticket. Days before his trip, Lili had emergency surgery. Luke came straight to the hospital, arriving at 3am, and stayed for five days, sleeping on a futon. Lili recalled, “I was amazed by how supportive he was. He never left my side.”

Engagement and Marriage

After that visit, Lili knew she would marry him. Luke, having no ties to England, moved to the US. They got engaged three months later, about a year after meeting online. They married in September 2024 in a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains, mentioning the Facebook algorithm in their vows. A group member estimated they lived 38 million bananas apart.

A Dull Life Together

Luke moved into Lili’s home with her children. Lili said, “We just exist together – no fuss, no stress, no anxiety. It’s just nice being dull together.” They travel and attend concerts but find contentment in simplicity.
