British Airways cancelled flight BA254 from Bridgetown, Barbados, to London Heathrow on Sunday after crew members reportedly engaged in heavy drinking at a hotel bar hours before departure. The flight, scheduled to depart at 4:25 PM local time and arrive in the UK at 6:15 AM on Monday, was axed, disrupting travel plans for up to 336 passengers.
Crew Suspensions and Investigation
A number of British Airways crew members have been suspended pending an investigation, according to the Press Association. The Sun reported that the crew participated in a "vodka and beer session," with one female cabin crew member vomiting and a male colleague collapsing. The incident occurred at an all-inclusive, ocean-fronted resort popular with honeymooners, which was not named.
Witness Accounts and Airline Response
Other guests at the resort filmed the crew members, one of whom was heard saying, "We're British Airways crew, what of it?" British Airways issued a statement saying, "We expect the highest standards of our crew, and we are urgently investigating this matter." The airline has not disclosed the number of crew members suspended or the duration of the investigation.
