Aldi opens new Edgware Road supermarket August 6

Aldi is opening a new supermarket on Edgware Road, one of Central London's busiest thoroughfares, on Thursday, August 6 at 8am. The store, located at 90-100 Edgware Road, W2 2EA, will be officially opened by Team GB Olympic gold medallist rower Rory Gibbs, who will cut the ribbon and hand out free bags of fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Store details and opening hours

The new branch is situated in Zone 1, minutes from Paddington Station and Marble Arch, and less than a 10-minute walk from Hyde Park. It will be open seven days a week: Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. The store has created 23 new jobs for the local community.

Shoppers can expect a full range of everyday groceries, products from Aldi's 'Specially Selected' range, a food-to-go section, and a selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Store manager Bogdan Maricas said: "We can't wait to open the doors to the new store in Edgware Road. It's set to be a special day, and having Olympic hero Rory Gibbs join us will make it a morning to remember."

Expansion plans across the UK

The Edgware Road opening is part of Aldi's broader expansion strategy. The retailer previously announced plans to launch 16 new sites across the UK in the coming months, including other London locations in Orpington and Hoxton, as well as Watford and Ashford in Kent. This aligns with Aldi's long-term ambition to reach 1,500 stores nationwide.

In January, Aldi confirmed its intention to open approximately 40 new stores in 2026. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "At Aldi, we're committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi's unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues."
