Surrey Police have released a woman arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a five-vehicle collision on the M25, pending the results of laboratory tests. The crash occurred on the clockwise carriageway between Junction 10 and Junction 11 just before 2.50pm on September 2.
Arrest and release details
A Surrey Police spokesperson confirmed that officers attended the scene after receiving reports of a collision involving five vehicles. A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. She was taken to hospital to provide specimens for analysis and has since been released, the spokesperson confirmed on September 21. She will be interviewed once the test results are available.
Traffic impact and delays
The collision caused significant disruption, with queues stretching back to Cobham Services and delays of up to 70 minutes reported. Two lanes remained closed at the time of the initial statement, but were expected to reopen later that afternoon.
Second incident on the same day
Earlier on the same day, a separate collision occurred on the anticlockwise carriageway between Junction 13 at Staines and Junction 12 at the M3. That incident involved three vehicles and was reported shortly before 2pm. One person was taken to hospital for treatment. The motorway has since fully reopened following that incident.
Police continue to investigate both incidents, with further action pending the outcome of the drink-driving test results.
