Rockstar Games and the popular GTA 5 roleplay server NoPixel are set to launch a closed beta for the major update NoPixel 5 on September 8, available through the official Rockstar Games Launcher. This move signals Rockstar's commitment to supporting the roleplaying community and hints at similar support for the upcoming GTA 6.
Closed Beta Details and Access
NoPixel announced the closed beta via Discord, with the news later shared on X (formerly Twitter). The beta will be available starting September 8, but only select participants will gain access initially. Invites will be rolled out gradually as access to NoPixel 5 expands. Interested players can register interest through the NoPixel website, though the beta is only for GTA Online on PC and requires the FiveM mod to be installed.
A teaser trailer is scheduled for September 1, and the team describes NoPixel 5 as a 'full rebuild' featuring new locations, vehicles, and a more in-depth city. Despite this, the current NoPixel servers will remain accessible for those who continue to use them.
Rockstar's Growing Support for Roleplay
Rockstar acquired FiveM in 2023, officially endorsing the mod that has long enabled custom roleplaying experiences in GTA Online, such as players acting as cops and robbers. In 2025, Rockstar collaborated with NoPixel, one of the most popular roleplay servers, on the NoPixel 5 update. The beta's availability through the Rockstar Games Launcher underscores Rockstar's serious investment in the roleplay community, suggesting GTA 6 will see similar integration.
Implications for GTA 6
Roleplay support is unlikely to be available at GTA 6's launch, as the game will initially release on consoles, and Rockstar has not officially detailed its online mode, informally called GTA Online 2 by fans. However, a PC port is expected eventually, and rumors indicate Rockstar wants GTA 6's online mode to support monetizable user-generated content, a feature already possible with FiveM. This integration could also bring mod support to console versions.
Fans may not have to wait long for more GTA 6 news. An extended preview of the game is scheduled to air on Netflix and later on YouTube next week, potentially revealing gameplay footage and details on a PC port or GTA Online 2. The preview is rumored to be about an hour long, spread across three episodes, suggesting a wealth of information to come.
