The Spinney Sidcup faces four months of Thames Water works

An entire road in Bexley is facing four months of closures as major water works get underway. The Spinney in Sidcup is set to be closed to traffic along its entire length while mains replacement works are carried out.

The works, which are being carried out by MGroup Water on behalf of Thames Water, are due to begin on Monday, October 26. Bexley Council has made a temporary traffic order allowing vehicles to be prohibited from using the entire length of the road while the works take place.

Temporary traffic order and duration

The order will remain valid for 18 months, although the works themselves are expected to be completed within 132 days, or around four months. Drivers will not necessarily face a continuous four-month closure, with the restrictions applying only when indicated by traffic signs.

Parking will also be affected, with waiting and loading banned along the entire length of The Spinney when the restrictions are in force. Motorists will be diverted via The Grove and The Spinney while the works are taking place.

Exemptions and announcement timeline

Emergency service vehicles and vehicles being used in connection with the works will be exempt from the restrictions. The temporary traffic order was announced by Bexley Council on Wednesday, October 21, ahead of the works beginning on Monday.

Residents and commuters are advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time during the works period. The council has not indicated any further changes to the diversion route beyond the stated detour via The Grove and The Spinney.
