Heathrow Airport's 2026 Drop-Off Charge Rises to £7 From New Year's Day
Heathrow's 2026 drop-off charge rises to £7

Drivers using Heathrow Airport's terminal forecourts will face higher costs and tighter time limits from the start of 2026, as new pick-up and drop-off charges come into effect.

New Year's Day Brings Higher Fees

From 1 January 2026, the charge for dropping off passengers directly outside any of Heathrow's four terminals will increase to £7 per visit. This represents a rise of £1 compared to the 2025 rate and is £2 more than drivers paid in 2024. The key change is that motorists will now have a maximum of 10 minutes in the designated drop-off zones before incurring additional penalties.

Payment for the drop-off charge must be made by card, using one of three methods: online, via an automated telephone service, or through the autopay system once set up. Crucially, payment must be completed by midnight the day after the visit. Failure to pay will result in a £80 Parking Charge Notice (PCN), although this is reduced to £40 if settled within 14 days.

Free and Paid Alternatives for Drivers

For those looking to avoid the terminal fee, Heathrow continues to offer a free drop-off option at its Park and Ride car parks (formerly known as Long Stay). Passengers can be dropped off here for free and then take a complimentary bus transfer to their terminal. This is only free for stays under 30 minutes; drivers staying up to the maximum two hours will pay £9.40.

It is important to note that Blue Badge holders are exempt from charges at the Park and Ride car parks and can stay for up to two hours at no cost.

Strict Rules for Picking Up Passengers

Drivers are not permitted to pick up passengers from the terminal forecourts. Anyone collecting travellers must use the Short Stay car parks and pay the applicable tariffs. For stays of less than 24 hours, payment is made at self-service machines with the following charges:

  • 0 to 29 minutes: £7.50
  • 30 to 44 minutes: £11.50
  • 45 to 59 minutes: £14.50
  • 1 to 2 hours: £18.50

The changes, effective from New Year's Day, are part of Heathrow's ongoing strategy to manage congestion and promote the use of public transport. Drivers are urged to plan their journeys carefully, consider the free Park and Ride option, and ensure they pay the new £7 fee promptly to avoid a costly penalty.
