On Saturday, February 27th, Coram's Fields in Bloomsbury was the vibrant stage for the Camden Youth League's Half-Term Cup, where young footballers showcased their skills in a day filled with excitement and competition. Numerous teams, including Active FC, Queen's Park, Panitas, FC Marylebone, London Thames, MGA Lions, Vale FC, and Universal FC, participated, all vying for the coveted trophy. However, after a series of intense and entertaining matches, only two clubs stood out as champions: London Futsal Stars and City of London FC.
Under-8s Victory for London Futsal Stars
London Futsal Stars secured a memorable win in the Under-8s age group, adding fresh silverware to their collection. Founder Shaz Anwar, a resident of Highbury, expressed his pride in the team's performance, highlighting their progress in football and the strong friendships forming among players. He praised the event organizers, stating, "The team really is progressing nicely with their football and the players are forming some great friendships. I want to thank the organisers for hosting a really enjoyable and well-run half-term tournament. It was a fun and fair event for local clubs." This victory underscores the club's dedication to nurturing young talent in a supportive environment.
City of London FC Dominates Under-10s Category
In the Under-10s final, City of London FC demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and conceding only one goal. Their journey culminated in a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the final, capping off an unforgettable afternoon for the players and supporters. This triumph highlights the club's commitment to excellence and teamwork, setting a high standard for youth football in the region.
Community Support and Future Events
The Half-Term Cup was organized by London Grassroots Sports, the same group that manages the Camden Youth League at Coram's Fields every Saturday. The event received significant support through a £2,000 grant from the "We Make Camden Kit" initiative, a collaborative effort involving Camden Citizens, Camden Council, Camden Giving, and local businesses. This partnership aims to fund and promote innovative ideas that enhance the community, making Camden a better place for all residents. Looking ahead, further cup competitions have been scheduled for the Easter school holidays and May, promising more opportunities for young athletes to shine.
This tournament not only celebrated athletic achievement but also fostered community spirit and youth development, reinforcing the importance of grassroots sports in London.
