East London's New Lido Opens This Week for Heat Wave

East London's newest lido, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf, is set to open this Friday, June 19, just in time for the next heat wave. Located in Eden Dock, the state-of-the-art freshwater facility features a 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with six lanes, two renewable energy-powered saunas, and a community clubhouse offering food and drink. Despite being on the Thames, the pool floats on the dock and uses naturally filtered freshwater tested to EU Bathing Standards.

Key Features and Access

Visitors can choose between membership options or pay-per-swim access. The venue also offers a wetsuit concierge service. This expansion follows the success of Sea Lanes' Brighton site, which opened in June 2023.

Community Impact

Joe McNulty, Director at Sea Lanes, said: "We're thrilled to bring a National Open Water Swimming Centre to the heart of Canary Wharf, offering Londoners a chance to swim in natural water." The venue promises to be "an urban oasis for health and wellbeing" in the green waterfront setting of Eden Dock.

With the Met Office predicting highs of 29 degrees and full sun on Friday, the lido arrives just as Londoners seek relief from the heat. The pool is part of a growing trend of urban swimming facilities in the capital.
