Tiger Woods Arrested for DUI Following Car Crash in Florida
Golf icon Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his vehicle was involved in a serious crash in Florida, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, near Jupiter Island, where Woods resides.
Details of the High-Speed Collision
Police reported that Woods was driving a Land Rover that attempted to overtake a truck at high speeds. The vehicle swerved, clipped another truck towing a trailer, and rolled onto its side. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek stated that the crash happened on a small, two-lane road shortly after 2 p.m. local time.
Sheriff Budensiek emphasized the potential severity of the accident, noting, "Had there been someone moving in the opposite direction, we would not be having a conversation saying there was no injuries. This could've been a lot worse." Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the parties involved.
Impairment and Legal Charges
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed that Woods displayed signs of impairment. Although a breathalyser test returned negative results, Woods refused to provide a urine sample. As a result, he has been charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Sheriff Budensiek explained during a press conference, "When it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused, and so he has been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test." He added that Woods appeared lethargic, which authorities believe was due to intoxication from an unknown substance.
Previous Incidents and Safety Concerns
This marks at least the third car crash involving Tiger Woods. In February 2021, he suffered severe leg and ankle injuries after his SUV ran off a road in Los Angeles at high speed. Woods later revealed that doctors considered amputation due to the extent of his injuries.
Additionally, Woods was arrested on a DUI charge in 2017 when police found him asleep behind the wheel of a damaged car in south Florida. He attributed the incident to a bad mix of painkillers and pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
In the latest crash, it remains unclear if Woods was wearing a seat belt, as he reportedly crawled out of the passenger door before police arrived. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities highlighting the risks of impaired driving on narrow roads.
