Rory McIlroy Unveils Unique Masters Champions Dinner Menu Featuring Elk and Childhood Favorites
Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy has revealed his carefully curated menu for the prestigious 2026 champions dinner at Augusta National, featuring an unexpected centerpiece: elk. The Northern Irish golfer, who will host fellow past winners in the Augusta clubhouse on April 7th, explained that elk played a significant role in his preparation for his 2025 Masters victory.
Elk Takes Center Stage in Champions Dinner Appetizers
McIlroy announced on Wednesday that he will serve grilled elk sliders with caramelised onion jam and roasted garlic aioli as part of the dinner's appetizer selection. "In the buildup to the Masters last year, I was eating a lot of elk," McIlroy revealed. "I got this big shipment of elk and I was eating a lot of that. I didn't want elk to be the main course because I didn't know if everyone would like that. So I incorporated that into the appetisers."
The inclusion of the North American animal meat represents a tribute to what McIlroy believes helped fuel his championship performance. Alongside the elk sliders, the appetizer course will feature Rosie McIlroy's bacon-wrapped dates, adding a personal touch from the champion's mother.
Childhood Memories and Restaurant Favorites Complete the Menu
For the main course, guests will choose between wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, following a yellowfin tuna carpaccio starter that holds special significance for McIlroy. The tuna dish comes from New York's renowned Le Bernardin restaurant, where chef Eric Ripert created what McIlroy calls "the one thing I have to have" whenever he visits.
"It's a really simple dish, but every time we go to, that's the one thing I have to have," McIlroy said. "So that's a fun one the club worked with me on. They went up to the restaurant and worked with the chefs, and made sure; they obviously wanted to get it right for the night, so that's really cool."
Accompanying the main course will be champ, a traditional Northern Irish side dish made with mashed potatoes and scallions. "When I was a kid I used to eat champ by the bowlful," McIlroy shared. "So trying to tie in a little bit of my upbringing there."
Wine Selection Reflects Personal Milestones and Passion
McIlroy, known for his appreciation of fine wines, has selected four special wines for the dinner, including Bordeaux from 1989 (the year of his birth) and 1990. "That is the wine I drank the night I won the Masters, so brings back some great memories," he explained.
"I wanted to be really intentional with the wines. It's something I'm really into and passionate about and started to collect wine over the past decade," McIlroy added. "To work with the sommeliers at the club and be able to choose these wines was a lot of fun."
The champions dinner represents one of golf's most cherished traditions, where the reigning Masters champion selects the menu and hosts past winners in an exclusive gathering. McIlroy will begin his Masters defense on April 9th, following the April 7th dinner that showcases his unique culinary choices blending personal history, championship preparation, and fine dining experiences.
