The research findings indicate that WSL supporters spent an average of £145 per matchday excluding ticket purchases during the last season. This figure notably surpasses the £138 average expenditure recorded among Premier League attendees. Extrapolating from self-reported fan data, the research calculated that last season witnessed combined discretionary supporter spending reaching £5.6 million per Premier League fixture round, while WSL matches generated just under £1 million per round. Across the entire duration of both competitions, this translated to a staggering £2.3 billion in total fan expenditure.

Barclays' proprietary transaction data revealed additional intriguing patterns: local spending increased by 5.8 percent on Premier League matchdays when home teams secured victories, compared to a mere 0.1 percent rise following draws or losses. Interestingly, WSL results did not demonstrate comparable spending fluctuations based on match outcomes.
