The US Open's fifth day of play gets underway at 11am New York time (4pm BST) on Thursday, with the first round finally complete after rain delays earlier in the week. The headline acts in the day session include Taylor Fritz, Iga Swiatek, Mirra Andreeva, Amanda Anisimova, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, all looking to build on their opening wins.
Rain-Delayed Start Finally Over
After several interruptions that pushed the first round into a fourth day, the tournament now moves into a full second-round slate. Organizers confirmed the schedule would proceed as planned, with 11 matches on the main show courts.
Among the day-session standouts is Britain's Fran Jones, who faces a tough test against American teenager Iva Jovic, one of the home hopes. Harriet Dart, also of Britain, takes on Czech 25th seed Marie Bouzkova. Both matches are expected to be closely contested, with Jones and Dart looking to reach the third round.
Top Seeds and Rising Stars in Action
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek headlines the women's draw, while men's fifth seed Taylor Fritz continues his campaign. Mirra Andreeva, the 17-year-old Russian, is also scheduled, as is American Amanda Anisimova, who has shown strong form this week.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, the Canadian 19th seed, plays in the day session, along with Alex de Minaur, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Madison Keys. American Michael Zheng, another rising talent, features as well, with Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Elena Rybakina, and Gael Monfils reserved for the evening session.
Osaka's Fashion and Eala Mania
Off the court, Naomi Osaka's latest fashion statement has drawn attention, while the buzz around Filipino player Alexandra Eala continues to grow. Eala, who won the girls' singles title here in 2022, has become a fan favorite, and her second-round match is expected to draw a large crowd.
The day's play is set to run into the evening, with the night session starting at 7pm New York time. Spectators are reminded that the Honey Deuce, the tournament's signature cocktail, remains available at all bars.
