Tuchel's England beat Mexico 2-0 in World Cup tune-up

England secured a 2-0 victory over Mexico in a friendly match at Wembley on Tuesday, with goals from Jarell Quansah and Phil Foden. The win served as a final tune-up for Thomas Tuchel's side ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Quansah opens his account

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah scored his first senior international goal in the 23rd minute, heading in a corner from James Maddison. The 21-year-old's goal was a reward for his impressive form for club and country, according to Tuchel.

Foden doubles the lead

Phil Foden doubled England's lead in the 57th minute with a clinical finish from inside the box after a pass from Jude Bellingham. The Manchester City midfielder's goal was his 10th for England in 35 appearances.

Tuchel's tactical experiment

Tuchel used the match to experiment with a 3-4-3 formation, with Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford playing as wing-backs. The German coach said after the match: "We wanted to test a different system and it worked well. The players adapted quickly and we created many chances."

According to Tuchel, the formation allowed England to press high and dominate possession, with Mexico managing only two shots on target. The victory extended England's unbeaten run to 12 matches under Tuchel.

World Cup preparations

England will now travel to Qatar for the World Cup, where they will face Iran, the United States, and Wales in Group B. Tuchel said he was pleased with the team's performance but stressed there was still room for improvement.

"We are not at 100% yet, but we are getting there," Tuchel said. "The World Cup will be a different challenge, but I am confident in this squad."
