England head coach Thomas Tuchel hailed his team's 3-2 victory over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, describing the win as 'almost like we won a final.' The match, played in front of a hostile home crowd and at high altitude, saw England overcome early concerns to secure a dramatic victory.
Bellingham double and Kane penalty seal win
Jude Bellingham scored twice, with Harry Kane adding a decisive penalty to give England the lead. The result sends England into the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Norway for the first time in a major tournament after Norway eliminated Brazil.
Tuchel exhausted but delighted
Speaking after the game, Tuchel said: 'It feels almost like we won a final or something.' He admitted the altitude and atmosphere made it a tough contest. 'We knew it would be difficult, but the players showed incredible character.'
Henderson injury mars celebrations
However, the victory was marred by an injury to midfielder Jordan Henderson, who hurt his wrist after falling over an advertising board during the match. 'Jordan injured his wrist, it just doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is not with us,' Tuchel said. 'I don't know the procedure, the doctor told me he is in the hospital.'
