Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were seen together in public as a married couple for the first time on Saturday night, attending Al-Nassr's 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh. The outing came days after the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony at their home in Cascais, Portugal.
Private ceremony details emerge
The 41-year-old footballer and his 32-year-old partner married last week in an 'intimate and private' ceremony, a year after he proposed with a £3million ring. Reports had speculated about a lavish event at Portugal's Funchal Cathedral and a reception at the five-star Savoy Palace, but those proved to be rumours when a different couple arrived at the venue to a crowd of thousands.
Details of the actual ceremony emerged over the weekend, with Vogue revealing the couple exchanged vows in their living room in Cascais, where they own a £30m mansion. Rodriguez told Vogue, 'It was exactly as I'd imagined it,' and admitted she 'couldn't hold back the tears.'
Wedding witnesses and family reaction
Jornal de Noticias published a copy of the marriage certificate on Thursday, confirming that only four witnesses were present, in addition to the couple's children. Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings Hugo, Elma, and Katia were not present and reportedly learned of the wedding just 30 seconds before it happened. However, Aveiro had given her blessing, and when Ronaldo shared a photo of the wedding bands on social media, she commented with a heart underneath.
Rodriguez said a larger celebration is planned for the future: 'In the future we will have a big wedding so we can celebrate with family and friends.' She also reflected on her change in perspective, saying, 'When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I'm saying, "No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home." Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: we have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate – that's more unusual for us.'
First public appearance and future plans
At the match, Ronaldo wore all-black attire with expensive jewellery, while Rodriguez wore a satin bomber jacket. Their daughter Alana, eight, sat on Rodriguez's lap, while twins Eva and Mateo, nine, stood beside them in team shirts. Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2023, had missed preseason due to the 2026 World Cup, where Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16, and was away for his wedding.
When asked if marriage would change anything, Ronaldo said, 'Just the fact of being man and wife – you enter a different league.' He also hinted at retirement, saying this is 'probably [his] last year of football,' and that his future is 'all mapped out' as he plans to spend more time with family. On the possibility of another child, Rodriguez said, 'Another baby now would be overbooking at home. But when the youngest are 15 or 16, we'll still be young, so why not? It's true that I can't imagine myself without small children, so we'll see.' Ronaldo added, 'I never say never. I want to leave a spectacular legacy.'
