Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has urged caretaker manager Michael Carrick to reverse the club's decision to let Casemiro leave Old Trafford this summer. The Brazilian midfielder announced in January that he would be departing at the end of the season after three years with the Red Devils.
Casemiro's impact at Manchester United
Casemiro, 34, joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 after a decade at the Spanish giants, where he won three La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues. Despite a slow start in the Premier League, where he faced criticism from pundits like Jamie Carragher, Casemiro has become one of United's most consistent performers over the past two seasons.
Robson, a former United captain, believes the midfielder still has plenty to offer. "I would encourage Casemiro to stay," Robson told BoyleSports. "He's had a really good season this year. He's a top player with a great football brain. He passes well, heads well, and tackles with intent. You don't stay at Real Madrid that long without being an absolute top player."
Contract situation and emotional farewell
United had a one-year extension option in Casemiro's contract but chose not to activate it. In his January statement, Casemiro said: "I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create. In England, I am red until death."
Since Ruben Amorim's sacking in January, United have climbed to third in the Premier League under Carrick, with Champions League qualification all but secured. Casemiro's experience could prove vital in the final games and beyond.
Robson added: "Next season he could definitely give us more with his experience. He was great in Europe last year too."
