Real Madrid interest
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has shifted from initial resistance to pursuing Rodri, likely due to his World Cup resurgence and José Mourinho's reported interest. Rodri said in March, "You can't turn down one of the world's best clubs," despite Real Madrid boycotting his Ballon d'Or ceremony in November 2024.
Gvardiol's confidence
Joško Gvardiol, who signed a new five-year contract, expressed confidence in Maresca. "I think we can achieve some great things together," the Croatian said. Gvardiol has made 122 appearances and won six trophies with City since joining from RB Leipzig for £77m.
Market deadline
City have five weeks of the transfer market remaining to persuade Rodri his future is at the club. Guardiola's policy of not stopping unhappy players from leaving complicates the situation, as Rodri may wish to return to his native Madrid.
