Real Madrid Reportedly Closer to Signing Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez Than Manchester City's Rodri
According to recent reports emerging from Spain, Real Madrid are showing a stronger interest in acquiring Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez compared to Manchester City's Rodri. This development comes amid ongoing speculation about potential midfield reinforcements for the Spanish giants this summer.
Rodri's Contract Situation and Madrid Interest
Last week, Manchester City midfielder Rodri opened the door to a potential move to Real Madrid during an interview with Onda Cero. The Spanish international acknowledged his contract situation at City, stating he has one year remaining on his current deal and that discussions about his future would need to occur.
'I have a year left on my contract, obviously there will be a point where we'll have to sit down and talk, have a conversation,' Rodri explained when questioned about his Manchester City future.
When specifically asked if he would reject a move to Real Madrid due to his previous affiliation with city rivals Atletico Madrid, Rodri responded: 'No, I mean, there have been many players who have gone down that path, right? And especially not directly, but over time. I mean, for me, you can't turn down the best clubs in the world.'
Spanish Media Reports Favor Fernandez
Despite Rodri's apparent openness to a Madrid move, Spanish radio presenter Raul Varela claimed on Radio Marca's La Tribu program that Real Madrid would prioritize a move for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez if they pursue a central midfielder this summer.
'Enzo is much closer to Real Madrid, Rodri has no chance of going to Real Madrid,' Varela stated emphatically. 'Today, the president of Real Madrid doesn't want to sign him. I hate transfer news because everything changes every fifteen minutes, but today the president of Real Madrid is not going to sign Rodri.'
Marca journalist Amalio Moratalla added further context to the Fernandez speculation: 'He's a very high-level player who would surely fit in at Real Madrid, the question is what price Chelsea would set and what effort Real Madrid would have to make.'
Fernandez Expresses Interest in Madrid Move
In a revealing interview released over the weekend on YouTube channel Avirales, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez gave clear indications that he would be receptive to joining Real Madrid.
'I'd like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid, it reminds me of Buenos Aires,' the Argentine international confessed. 'Players live where they want. I'd live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I'd be more comfortable in Spanish.'
This statement follows Fernandez casting doubt over his long-term future at Chelsea after the club's Champions League exit earlier this month, adding further fuel to transfer speculation surrounding the midfielder.
Transfer Market Context
The potential midfield reshuffle comes as:
- Real Madrid consider summer reinforcements for their squad
- Chelsea face uncertainty about Fernandez's commitment to the club
- Manchester City navigate Rodri's contract situation with one year remaining
- Multiple European clubs prepare for what promises to be an active transfer window
While transfer rumors frequently evolve and change direction, the current consensus among Spanish media sources suggests Enzo Fernandez represents a more likely target for Real Madrid than his compatriot Rodri, despite both players expressing varying degrees of interest in a move to the Spanish capital.
