Preston Striker Banned for Nine Crucial Fixtures
Preston North End have been dealt a significant blow as forward Milutin Osmajić has been handed a nine-match suspension by an independent Regulatory Commission. The ban comes after a proven breach of FA Rule E3, relating to an incident during a Championship match against Burnley in February.
The Charge and Club's Stance
The 26-year-old Montenegrin international was charged with an aggravated breach of FA Rule E3 following allegations made by Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri during the 0-0 draw at Turf Moor on 15th February 2025. The FA alleged that the words used included a reference, either express or implied, to colour and/or race.
Osmajić strongly refuted the allegations, and a hearing took place in September. The Regulatory Commission, however, found the charge to be proven. In addition to the immediate nine-game ban, Osmajić was fined £21,000 and must complete a mandatory education course.
Preston North End issued a statement expressing extreme disappointment with the outcome. The club highlighted that the decision was made "on the 'Balance of Probabilities' rather than one that is 'Beyond Reasonable Doubt'". They confirmed that Osmajić continues to plead his innocence and that they remain fully supportive of their player, while also reaffirming their commitment to their Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policies.
Fixture Fallout for Preston
The suspension begins immediately, meaning Osmajić will be absent for a critical run of games. The key fixtures he will miss include:
- Millwall (A)
- Blackburn Rovers (A)
- Watford (H)
- Sheffield Wednesday (H)
- Wrexham (A)
- Coventry City (H)
- Oxford United (A)
- Norwich City (H)
- Stoke City (A)
This absence will test the squad's depth as they navigate a challenging period in their season without a key attacking player.
