Crystal Palace Target £21m Joe Willock in January Swap Deal with Newcastle
Palace target £21m Willock in Newcastle swap deal

Crystal Palace are preparing for a significant January transfer window move, with reports indicating a strong interest in Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock.

The Eagles, flying high under manager Oliver Glasner, are exploring a potential swap deal that could see Japanese international Daichi Kamada move to Tyneside.

Palace's Midfield Reinforcement Plans

Crystal Palace's remarkable Premier League campaign faces a crucial test this weekend against Manchester United. A victory could potentially lift the South London club to second place in the table, underscoring their unexpected challenge for Champions League qualification.

However, this success brings its own challenges, with manager Oliver Glasner fighting to retain key assets like Jean-Philippe Mateta and Adam Wharton amid growing interest from other clubs.

The Austrian manager recognises the need to strengthen his squad to maintain their European push, leading to their interest in Newcastle's Joe Willock.

The Joe Willock Situation

The 26-year-old midfielder has seen limited action for Eddie Howe's side this season, making just four Premier League appearances and three in the Champions League.

Despite his squad role at St James' Park, Willock remains highly regarded by the Newcastle management. Following Newcastle's recent defeat to Brentford, Howe praised the midfielder's unique qualities.

"Naturally, I think our midfield does have a different complexion with him in the team," Howe stated. "Joe does add a running and an athleticism that maybe we don't have without him. I was delighted with his contribution."

Newcastle are expected to demand a fee upwards of £20 million for the former Arsenal academy product, with some reports suggesting around £21 million.

The Potential Swap Deal

With Crystal Palace determined to keep hold of rising star Adam Wharton, the club is considering offering Daichi Kamada as part of the deal to tempt Newcastle into selling Willock.

The 29-year-old Japanese midfielder has been a reliable option for Glasner this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions, though he is yet to find the net.

Kamada's contractual situation adds urgency to any potential deal. His current contract expires in June, meaning Palace risk losing him for nothing next summer unless they can secure a transfer in January.

From Newcastle's perspective, Kamada could represent an experienced squad option, effectively filling the role currently occupied by Willock while providing immediate depth for their own European and domestic campaigns.

This potential transfer comes amid ongoing speculation about other Palace players, with reports suggesting one star is 'open' to a Selhurst Park exit as European giants 'plot blockbuster' moves.
