Norris wins Dutch GP after Verstappen crash

Lando Norris secured victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, delivering a commanding performance to overtake Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in the closing stages of a tense 72-lap race at Zandvoort. The McLaren driver finished ahead of Antonelli, who took second, and George Russell, who completed the podium in third. The race was overshadowed by a dramatic first-lap crash involving Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who walked away unhurt despite his car being destroyed in a high-speed incident.

Antonelli leads early after Verstappen's crash

The opening lap saw Verstappen’s race end abruptly in a massive collision that scattered debris across the track, prompting a 40-minute red flag stoppage. After the restart, Antonelli, who had already passed Russell for second, made a decisive move on Norris to take the lead, putting the Mercedes driver in control for the majority of the race.

Norris, however, kept the pressure on, staying close to the Italian throughout the middle stint. McLaren opted to extend Norris’s second stint, keeping him out longer than expected before his final pit stop. The strategy proved decisive, as Norris emerged on fresher tyres and quickly closed the gap to Antonelli, who struggled with grip on his older rubber.

Norris strikes late with 15 laps remaining

With 15 laps left, Norris made his move, overtaking Antonelli to reclaim the lead. A late virtual safety car gave Antonelli a final chance, as he pitted for new soft tyres in a bid to challenge for the win. Russell, who was running ahead of his teammate, reluctantly let Antonelli through, but the Mercedes driver could not close the gap to Norris, who held on to take his second victory of the season.

Verstappen crashes out of home race

Verstappen’s crash was the major talking point of the day, with the Red Bull driver’s car left in pieces after the high-speed impact. Fortunately, Verstappen emerged unscathed, but the incident ended his hopes of a home victory in front of his Dutch fans. The result marks a significant swing in the championship standings, as Norris extends his lead over Verstappen in the drivers’ title fight.
