Mason Mount appeared to ease concerns over a potential serious injury after being forced off during Manchester United's 1-1 pre-season draw with Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder, who has struggled with fitness since joining the club, limped off just before the half-hour mark, but was later seen walking without a protective boot or support.
Mount's fitness a positive sign for Carrick
Mount's exit initially sparked fears of another lengthy layoff, given his injury-plagued spell at Old Trafford. However, the 27-year-old was spotted boarding the team bus unassisted, suggesting the issue may not be severe. United boss Michael Carrick will hope to have Mount available for Wednesday's friendly against Leeds United.
Carrick, speaking ahead of the Dublin trip, expressed optimism about the squad's condition: "Looking forward to it. It's been a bit of different chapters through pre-season but to get everybody together it will be great. Two more games this week and looking forward to seeing the group develop."
United's encouraging display against PSG
Despite falling behind to Ibrahim Mbaye's second-minute strike, United responded well, with Bryan Mbeumo netting the equaliser. The performance was another positive step in pre-season, with new signing Youri Tielemans making his first appearance in a red shirt.
Carrick praised the team's adaptability and resilience: "Today the boys coming off the bench showed their quality. Top, top players. It was nice to have them back and we get more back next week. We're in a good place."
He added: "I feel it's been a good pre-season so far. The games that we've had, we've kind of built them. We've taken steps throughout that. Unfortunately we didn't quite get the win today but there was a lot of positive action that [the fans] can say they enjoyed the game."
Problem-solving on the pitch
Carrick highlighted the value of facing a top side like PSG, which forced United to adapt and problem-solve during the match. "It's good for the boys sometimes to have to problem solve and find their own way and I thought we did that. That prepares them for the season as well. In that respect there were a lot of things that maybe people don't always see that we were quite happy with. There were some good signs there."
The draw leaves United with two more pre-season fixtures, including a clash with AC Milan next weekend, before the Premier League campaign kicks off.
